Mechanizing the Powerset Construction for Restricted Classes of ω-Automata

چکیده
Automata over infinite words provide a powerful framework, which we can use to solve various decision problems. However, the automatized reasoning with restricted classes of automata over infinite words is often simpler and more efficient. For instance, weak deterministic Büchi automata, which recognize the ω-regular languages in the Borel class Fσ ∩Gδ, can be handled algorithmically almost as efficient as deterministic automata over finite words. In this paper, we show how and when we can determinize automata over infinite words by the standard powerset construction for finite words. The presented construction is more efficient than all-purpose constructions for automata that recognize languages in Fσ ∩ Gδ. Further, based on the powerset construction, we present an improved automata construction that handles the quantification in the automata-based approach for FO(R,Z,+,<) much more efficiently.

Typeness for ω-Regular Automata
We introduce and study three notions of typeness for automata on infinite words. For an acceptance-condition class γ (that is, γ is weak, Büchi, co-Büchi, Rabin, or Streett), deterministic γ-typeness asks for the existence of an equivalent γ-automaton on the same deterministic structure, nondeterministic γ-typeness asks for the existence of an equivalent γ-automaton on the same structure, and γ...
متن کاملExponential Determinization for ω-Automata with Strong-Fairness Acceptance Condition
In [Saf88] an exponential determinization procedure for Büchi automata was shown, yielding tight bounds for decision procedures of some logics ([EJ88, Saf88, SV89, KT89]). In [SV89] the complexity of determinization and complementation of ω-automata was further investigated, leaving as an open question the complexity of the determinization of a single class of ω-automata. For this class of ω-au...
متن کاملNondeterminism in the Presence of a Diverse or Unknown Future
Choices made by nondeterministic word automata depend on both the past (the prefix of the word read so far) and the future (the suffix yet to be read). In several applications, most notably synthesis, the future is diverse or unknown, leading to algorithms that are based on deterministic automata. Hoping to retain some of the advantages of nondeterministic automata, researchers have studied res...
متن کامل3 Determinization of Büchi -
To determinize Büchi automata it is necessary to switch to another class of ω-automata, e.g. Muller or Rabin automata. The reason is that there exist languages which are accepted by some nondeterministic Büchi-automaton, but not by any deterministic Büchi-automaton (c.f. section 3.1). The history of constructions for determinizing Büchi automata is long: it starts in 1963 with a faulty construc...
متن کاملCo-Büching Them All
We solve the open problems of translating, when possible, all common classes of nondeterministic word automata to deterministic and nondeterministic co-Büchi word automata. The handled classes include Büchi, parity, Rabin, Streett and Muller automata. The translations follow a unified approach and are all asymptotically tight. The problem of translating Büchi automata to equivalent co-Büchi aut...
